September is National Recovery Month. While the stigma still creates plenty of obstacles for recovery, I’m beginning to see some encouraging shifts. For one thing, the fact that we have a national recovery month is huge in and of itself. Highlighting that recovery is possible while showcasing all of the positive programs out there awakens people to options that they may not have seen before.
Over the last few years I’ve learned about some surprising ways that my book has been used: Read by parish book clubs, a Lenten study, step study for a group of Al-Anon friends that got together outside of the meeting, and the greatest compliment of all, a few AA friends got together and used by book to take their step-work deeper. I love hearing the ways that people dream up to keep working on their recovery.
